Our Services

The lens in the eye can become cloudy and hard, a condition called cataract. This interferes with the focusing power of the eye. Cataract can happen through ageing, as a result of eye injury, or if you have taken certain drugs such as steroids. Cataract causes blurred vision, dull vision, and sensitivity to light, glare and ghosting of images. If the cataract changes vision so much that it interferes with your daily life it may need to be removed. You can decide not to have the cataract removed, however your quality of vision will continue to dis-improve. The only available treatment for removal of cataract is surgery to replace the affected lens. The purpose of the surgery is to remove the cloudy natural lens and replace it with a plastic lens (implant) inside your eye

Advanced Treatment Options

At Riverpoint Eye Clinic we offer state-of-the-art treatment options to effectively manage cataracts and restore clear vision:

  • Premium IOLs: In addition to traditional monofocal IOLs, we also offer premium IOL options that can correct other vision problems, such as astigmatism or presbyopia, reducing your dependence on glasses or contacts after surgery.

Understanding Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry Eye, also referred to as Dry Eye Syndrome or Dry Eye Disease, is a prevalent issue that can affect individuals of any age. This condition arises when there’s an inadequate amount and/or quality of tears to adequately lubricate the eye’s surface, leading to discomfort. The eye’s surface is shielded by a delicate layer of tears known as the Tear Film, which serves multiple essential functions including cleansing, safeguarding, nourishing, and lubricating the eye. Proper maintenance of a healthy Tear Film relies on the action of blinking, which refreshes the tears and oils essential for optimal vision. Tear production involves several interconnected systems, and any disruption within these systems can lead to a decline in tear quality or quantity, ultimately culminating in Dry Eye Disease. The ramifications of Dry Eye can significantly impact one’s quality of life, hindering daily tasks such as driving or reading. This can lead to symptoms such as:

  • Dryness
  • Irritation
  • Burning or stinging sensation
  • Excessive tearing
  • Sensitivity to light

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, often as a result of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). If left untreated, glaucoma can lead to permanent vision loss. Symptoms may include:

  • Patchy blind spots in peripheral or central vision
  • Tunnel vision in advanced stages
  • Severe headache or eye pain
  • Nausea or vomiting

Advanced Treatment Options

Early detection and treatment are essential for managing glaucoma and preserving vision. At Riverpoint Eye Clinic], we offer diagnostic imaging and treatment options to effectively control intraocular pressure and prevent further damage to the optic nerve:

  • Medication: Eye drops or oral medications may be prescribed to reduce intraocular pressure and slow the progression of glaucoma.
  • Laser Therapy: Procedures such as selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) or laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) can help improve drainage of fluid from the eye and reduce intraocular pressure.
  • Surgical Intervention: In cases where medication and laser therapy are ineffective, surgical procedures such as trabeculectomy or glaucoma drainage implants may be recommended to lower intraocular pressure and preserve vision.

Our proficient surgeon specialize in managing critical retinal conditions such as retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage, epiretinal membrane, and macular hole, all of which pose risks of vision loss if left untreated. Our commitment is to restore and safeguard your vision with meticulous precision. Retinal disorders encompass damage to the retina, the light-sensitive tissue lining the rear of the eye. These conditions may involve retinal detachment, macular holes, and macular pucker. Timely diagnosis and intervention are paramount to preserving vision and averting further retinal damage. At Riverpoint Eye Clinic, our adept ophthalmologists provide cutting-edge treatment modalities for retinal disorders to uphold your vision and ocular well-being.

1. Retinal detachment:

Retinal detachment occurs when the retina, the inner layer of the eye, becomes separated from the back wall of the eye. This detachment is akin to wallpaper peeling off a wall. Without vitreoretinal surgery, reattachment is unlikely, leading to potential blindness. Therefore, it’s crucial for retinal detachments to be evaluated and treated promptly by a vitreoretinal surgeon.

2. Epiretinal membrane:

An epiretinal membrane (ERM) causes irregularities on the central part of the retina, known as the macula, leading to distorted vision. Treatment involves removing this problematic membrane from the surface of the macula using advanced vitreoretinal surgical techniques.

3. Macular Hole:

A macular hole refers to a defect at the center of the retina. In a small number of cases, this condition can be managed with an injection. However, most cases require vitreoretinal surgery to repair the hole and restore vision.

4. Vitreous Hemorrhage:

Vitreous hemorrhage involves bleeding into the back portion of the eye and is commonly associated with diabetic eye disease. If the blood does not clear within a reasonable time frame, vitreoretinal surgery becomes necessary to thoroughly assess the retina and restore the patient’s vision.Vitreoretinal Surgery entails highly specialized skills, and patients requiring interventions for retinal conditions are attended to at the Institute of Eye Surgery.

Age-related Macular Degeneration AMD is an eye condition which is the leading cause of blindness in older people. There are two types of macular degeneration: dry and wet. In the “dry” form of AMD, atrophy or wearing out of the fine cells in the macula the centre of the retina occurs. No treatment has as yet been proven to prevent or cure dry AMD, but research in this field continues. Currently, low vision aids may be used to support vision where necessary. In the “wet” form of AMD, abnormal blood vessels grow under the macula and affect the centre of the vision. Often such vessels leak blood or fluid and cause blurred or distorted vision. Without treatment, central vision loss may be severe, rapid and permanent Riverpoint Eye Clinic specializes in the diagnosis and management of AMD, offering advanced treatment options to help preserve your vision and quality of life.

Flashes & Floaters

Flashes and floaters are common visual disturbances that can arise due to changes in the vitreous gel within the eye. While often benign, they can occasionally signal more serious eye conditions like retinal detachment or vitreous hemorrhage. If you notice new or persistent flashes and floaters, seeking timely assessment by an eye care professional is crucial. At Riverpoint Eye Clinic, our proficient ophthalmologists conduct comprehensive examinations and specialized tests to diagnose and address flashes and floaters, prioritizing the well-being and safety of your eyes. While flashes and floaters may hint at underlying retinal issues, our utilization of Optos Silverstone enables us to swiftly pinpoint their origin in over 90% of cases via ultra-widefield retinal imaging. You can rely on us for accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment strategies.
